What's Adelphopoiesis?

'Adelphopoiesis' is the Greek word meaning the Making of Brothers.

It was the eastern church's blessing ceremony for a relationship between two people of the same sex. There were many blessing ceremonies, but very few included the communion. Both the blessing for a heterosexual marriage and blessing for the making of brothers included the communion.

The ceremony does not contain vows any more than the heterosexual blessing did, though this seems odd to those from a western European background.

There are several ancient texts of this rite, and only one of the western ordo ad fratres faciendum. But they share an number of features and have one prayer for a same sex couple in common.
