School Bullying
Are you at school?
We want to hear about your experience of bullying.
Many
people who are not gay still get the abuse as if they were. This is
NOT something you should just put up with. Damilola Taylor was only
ten when he was being bullied like this. He was not gay, but one very
serious attack was enough to leave him bleeding to death, too badly
injured to call for help, and with only minutes to live.
Aurora has already heard from a few pupils in schools in Croydon.
Gay Surrey has allowed us to use its website www.stophatenow.org.uk - click on Report Now.
It's run by Gay Surrey and not linked to schools or to the police but it's for you to record what you know about bullying in schools without having to say who you are.
But Surrey is a very big place. (The stophatenow site links to Surrey Police not the Croydon Police.) So if you're writing about Croydon please write 'Croydon' clearly.
You can say which part of Croydon, which school, who you are - or anything else you want to.
If you have information about someone who is being bullied for being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered - or just uncertain - please let us know. There are some helpful services and helplines on the lgbt youth links page. And Aurora needs information about what's happening. You can use the Contact Us page. You can use Aurora's secure text link to contact us anonymously - but Gay Surrey is collecting information about LGBT bullying in local schools. Please have a look at their website. You can give information via a secure text link (so they can't find out who you are, and there's no trace on your computer that you contacted them).
There have been lots and lots of incidents reported in Surrey schools - We need to hear from you to know what things are like in your school.
And look at the page on Links > Youth which has sources of help, and numbers for Mermaids, NRG, Off the Record, Gay Youth, and Childline, 0800 1111 who are there to help you.
